About Examinations

1.

For the purpose of this Manual, the following definitions shall apply:

 

1.1

Academic Year” means a year commencing on such date in August and ending with such date in June of the following year as may be decided by the Academic Council

 

1.2

“PROGRAM” means a set of the required number of semesters leading to the award of a UG or PG degree / diploma of UPL University

 

1.3

“SEMESTER” means a term consisting of a minimum of 450 contact hours distributed over 90 working days spread over 18 weeks of five-day duration each and five contact hours per day.( 18 X 5 X 5= 450 )

Semesters will be known as either Odd Semester or Even semester. The Semester from July to November will be Semesters I, III, V or VII depending upon the programme duration and similarly the semester from December to April will be Semesters II, IV, VI and VIII.

 

1.4

LETTER GRADE” is a index of performance of students in the said course. The grades are denoted by letters such as AA, AB,BB, BC,CC,DD,FF,NA(absent),O,A+,B,B+ etc.

 

1.5

“GRADE CARD” is based on grades earned, a grade certificate will be issued to all registred students after every semesters. The Grade certificate will display the course details, Grade, credits, credit points, SPI, CPI

 

1.6

“INSTITUTE EXAMINATION COORDINATOR(S)” is a faculty member who is/are responsible for the entire administration in Examination of concern Programme.

 

1.7

“INTERNAL EXAMINER” is a person who is a faculty member within university who is assigned the task of paper setter/evaluation of respective course.

 

1.8

“EXTERNAL EXAMINER” is a person who is a faculty member outside university who is assigned the task of paper setter/evaluation of respective course.

 

1.9

“EXAMINATION FEES” is the total fees chargeable from the students for examination by university from time to time as laid down by the UPL University of Sustainable Technology, Vataria

 

1.10

“Backlog EXAMINATION” is a examination for the students who is/are failure or absence in particular course.

 

1.11

“RE-TOTALING” is a Recounting of Marks of all answer(s) evaluated earlier.

 

1.12

“RE-ASSESSMENT” is a process in which the answer book of student is to be Re- evaluated.

 

1.13

“TRANSCRIPT” is a detailed records of all subjects a student has studied with scores in the from of marks/grades given by the institution of study.

 

1.14

“PROVISIONAL DEGREE CERTIFICATE” is a transitional document indicating the qualification of the student. It is valid till the respective upcoming convocation.

2.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE:

 

2.1

COURSE: A Course is a component (a paper) of a programme. A course may be designed to involve lectures / tutorials / laboratory work / seminar / project work/ practical training / report writing / Viva voce, etc or a combination of these, to meet effectively the teaching and learning needs and the credits may be assigned Suitably.

EVALUATION – MARKS AND GRADING SYSTEM:

 

Evaluation will be done on a continuous basis. The Student's performance in a course will be evaluated by assigning a letter grade.

 

3.1

For each course, the weightage for internal and external component shall be as per the examination scheme of particular programme of concerned faculty duly approved by Academic Council.

 

3.2

The internal component of the course will be evaluated by the instructor on the basis of internal exams,assignments, seminars, quizzes, attendance, practical work, viva-voce etc. as announced at the beginning of the course.

 

3.3

DECLARATION OF SEMESTER RESULTS

The Exam Section will declare the results within 30 days of completion of Examination.

SYSTEM OF EVALUATION AND AWARD OF DEGREE

 

1. On the basis of performance of an examinee in internal and external evaluation he/she is awarded grade. The numerical equivalents to these grades called the grade points are given below:

The grade FF is taken into consideration while calculating SPI & CPI. However, these will be replaced only after the clearance of the course with the relevant grade.

2.   The performance of the student in a semester is indicated by SPI. The SPI is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the Courses taken by the student during the semester. SPI is rounded off up to two decimal places.

The CPI is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the courses taken by the student since he/she entered the program. The CGPA is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the courses in the last four semesters of the program.

3.   Abbreviations  :   SPI: Semester Performance Index

CPI: Cumulative Performance Index

CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average ESE : End Semester Examination

PA: Progressive Assessment

4.   Backlog indicates failure in respective courses. FF shown in a particular head indicates marks less than the passing marks in the particular head and backlog in particular course.

5.   Formula for conversion to equivalent percentage of CPI/CGPA Percentage Marks=(CPI/CGPA-0.5) x 10.

CPI/CGPA Equivalent class shall be as follows:

Below 5.5        :    Pass class

5.5 & above    :    Second class

6.5 & above    :    First class

7.1 & above    :    First class with distinction

6.      For all programs, where the duration is more than 2 years, the degree shall be awarded to the students on the basis of CGPA of the last four semesters’ performance in the examination.

7.   In case of the Programs where duration is of two years, the degree shall be conferred to the students based upon CPI considering all the four semesters’ performance in the examinations.

8.   It is mandatory to pass non-credit Courses for the award of degree.

For non-credit courses Course Grade ‘PS’ indicates pass & ‘FF’ indicates fail.

9.  The medium of instruction is English.

 

5.

RE-TOTALING & RE-ASSESSMENT IN UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION

 

5.1

Re-Totalling : Only Total of Answer sheet(s) will be verified

 

5.2

Re-assesment: Answer sheet will be Reevaluated

 

5.3

Application:

1.   Student can apply for Re-checking & Re-assessment within 3 days of Declaration of University Results through student portal.

2.   The student has to apply by filling up the standard form along with payment of applicable fees.

UFM(UNFAIR MEANS)

 

6.1

⦿   No Candidate/examinee will use unfair Means or indulge in disorderly conduct or in connection with Examinations.

 

 

⦿   Doesn't follow the instructions given by the block supervisor or any competent authority

 

 

⦿   Writes irrelevant matter in the answer book

 

 

⦿   Deliberately reveals his/her identity or intentionally makes some irrelevant symbols, sketches etc. in the answer book

 

 

⦿   Communicates with another examinee or try to pass on information even after a word of caution from block supervisor or any competent authority

 

 

⦿   Possess any of the prohibited electronic gadgets*

 

 

⦿   Any sort of writing on the question paper other than instructed

 

 

⦿   Any exam    relevant    literature found     near or just

⦿   beneath his/her seat but he/she has not copied from the said material

 

 

⦿   Use of indecent or abusing words in the answer book

 

 

⦿   Attempts to remove Encrypted code or any sticker on the answer book

 

 

⦿   Indulges in writing the matter relevant to subject before commencement of

exam

 

 

⦿   Attempts oral communication with       another examinee.

 

 

⦿   If the examinee is found in possession or snatches away of notes, chits, answer book or part there of any other examinee however he/she has not written from the said material in his/her answer book

 

 

⦿   Indecent behavior at the examination center or in the examination hall

 

 

⦿   Possess any sort of exam relevant material other than that allowed by authorities in the examination hall or even outside the examination hall like toilet, lobby etc. or tries to contact any unauthorized person during the exam timings.

 

 

⦿   Possess   any  sort  of  exam  relevant  material

⦿   written/ printed on paper chits, compass box, calculator, pad, cloth, hand kerchief, dress or any part of the body or stored in electronic-gadgets including mobile-phone. in the examination hall or even outside the examination hall like lobby etc.

 

 

⦿   Attempts to bribe the examiner by mentioning address, contact detail, Mobile No. etc. or to contact the examiner directly or through any representative for his/her favour

 

 

⦿   Indulges in unfair practice outside the examination hall by any means

 

 

⦿   Copied from the exam relevant subject material, scribble on chits, compass box, calculator, pad, cloth, hand kerchief, dress or any part of the body or stored in electronic-gadgets including mobile-phone.

 

 

⦿   Indulge in exchange of answer book, supplementary with other examinee

 

 

⦿   Copied   from   another    examinee    or   deliberately

⦿   allows other examinee to copy from his own answer book or pass on the exam relevant material or literature in any form to another examinee in exam hall

 

 

⦿   If the examiner find some written/printed papers etc.of exam related material from the answer book of an examinee

 

 

⦿   Attempts to get rid of or to destroy any kind of exam relevant prohibited material with which he is caught or helps other in such an act

 

 

⦿   Examinee is found to throw away his answer book, supplementary, question paper,

 

 

⦿   practical job or part there of

 

 

⦿   If examinee is found to have torn the answer book, question paper, any other exam related material or part there of his/her own or other examinee

 

 

⦿   if the examiner reports that the examinee's answer book is written with more than one type of hand writing

 

 

⦿   if the examiner reports about missing pages or additional pages in the answer book of examinee

 

 

⦿   If the examinee obstruct the process of conducting the examination in any way

 

 

⦿   If an examinee tries to destroy the evidence by chewing the chit or in any other manner, which was found in his possession during examination

 

 

⦿   If examinee attempts to bribe by way of keeping currency notes in his/her answer book

 

 

⦿   If the examination committee is satisfied from the report of the examiner that the candidates have copied from one another or from any other sources or involved in mass copying during the examination

 

 

⦿   an    examinee           obstructs/threatens      or orally

⦿   assaults the block supervisor or any other personnel on exam duty

 

 

⦿   Tries     to   bring   duly   written    answer    book   or

⦿   supplementary from outside

 

 

⦿   If the examinee carries away an answer book, supplementary or practical job or part thereof outside the exam hall

 

 

⦿   Leaves the examination hall without submitting his answer book or tries to destroy it

 

 

⦿   If a person impersonates an examiner and, is detected during or after the examination

 

 

⦿   If an examinee not appearing in a particular examination of the university impersonates a candidate for any other examination

 

 

⦿   If a candidate of an examination of the university indulges in any in disciplinary action during an exam or helps other candidate/s to use unfair means

 

 

⦿   If an examinee possesses Gun, Revolver, Knife or any other prohibited weapon in or around exam hall

 

 

⦿   If an examinee physically assaults block supervisor or any competent authority on exam duty

 

 

⦿   If an examinee is found guilty of influencing supervisor or any member of adjudication committee or panel for viva voce or resorting to any malpractice

 

 

⦿   If during the examination or afterwards any examinee is found to have indulged in unfair means other than specified in Ito 6 as above and which has a bearing on the examination or result of the examinee and/or any other examinee

 

6.2

UFM Process & Review

If a candidate is found practicing any above –mentioned Unfair Means:

UFM report to be filled by Jr & Sr Supervisor of the center. the UFM committee will interact with students and refer the record statement of Jr/Sr Supervisor and report will prepare accordingly. The students will get the punishments according to regulation of UPL University.

CONVOCATION FOR CONFERRING DEGREES:

 

a.      Convocation for admitting candidate will be held annually at the University Campus.

b.      At the annual convocation the president will a report of the year's work in the university.

c.       The procedure to follow the convocation will be as lay down by the Academic Council.
